Scratch is a awesome language and tool to get started with programming in a playful and creative way. This workshop is intended for complete beginners as well as those who already have some experience with Scratch.

You'll learn the basics by creating an example game. After that, use your creativity and problem solving skills to make the game unique with your own rules and graphics. Ask around for help or to get advice on how to add a next challenge.
If you already have some experience with Scratch, you can also learn how to create beautifully colored fractal curves. In a few steps, you'll create Scratch code that will use itself (recursion) to draw a pattern that has the same properties, no matter how much you zoom in.
Practical information
- The workshop will be a mix of English and Dutch, and you can read a bit in both languages. Händen und Füßen will be used if necessary.
- You need to bring your own computer or tablet that connects to the internet. Don't forget to charge the battery and bring someone to help you with carrying and using it if necessary.
- You can use Scratch with almost any computer or tablet that runs an internet browser. Try: https://scratch.mit.edu/create. Bigger, brighter, upright screens work best.
- Scratch was designed for ages 8 and up. It could be good to bring someone to help you out. Solving programming challenges together can be a lot of fun.

Nederlands
Leer de basis door een voorbeeldspelletje te maken. Gebruik daarna je creativiteit en vindingrijkheid om je spel uniek te maken met eigen regels, afbeeldingen en animaties. Vraag rond voor hulp of om advies te krijgen om een volgende uitdaging aan je spel toe te voegen.
Als je al wat ervaring met Scratch hebt kan je ook leren hoe je prachtig gekleurde fractals kan maken. In een paar stappen maak je Scratch-code die zichzelf gebruikt (recursie) om een patroon te tekenen die steeds dezelfde eigenschappen heeft, hoe ver je ook inzoomt.
Praktische informatie
- De workshop zal een mix van Engels en Nederlands zijn, en je kan iets lezen in beide talen.
- Neem je eigen computer of tablet met internetverbinding mee. Vergeet 'm niet op te laden, en neem iemand mee die je helpt met dragen en gebruiken als dat nodig is.
- Scratch werkt op bijna elke computer of tablet met een internetbrowser. Probeer: https://scratch.mit.edu/create. Grotere, heldere schermen die rechtop staan werken het beste.
- Scratch is ontworpen voor 8 jaar en ouder. Het kan helpen om iemand mee te nemen om je te assisteren. Samen programmeeruitdagingen oplossen kan erg leuk zijn.
